Why Gems 23U:
The purpose is to give college level players the chance to maintain their skills during their between semester break.

Roster:
The team will be composed solely of players rostered on a college team. While many will have played with our Pennsbury Gems program, others from local/regional travel clubs, may be invited to join the roster. The overall roster size will fluctuate in response to player summer job and family vacation schedules. Everyone plays!

Practice/Workouts:
Player commitments to their college team is first priority. Many will receive authorization to workout and practice in their college off seasons during winter break and after their Spring semester. In late May/early June the team will gather on one of our Pennsbury fields and run regimented practices with the purpose, not of individual instruction, but to quickly reach team cohesiveness.

Summer Schedule:
Several scrimmages, double headers, or round robins will be scheduled in between the team playing more traditional 23U tournaments in and around the tri-state area. There are no plans to expand to play in the larger regional states that would require the time and expense of travel. Final play would conclude by late July to early August.

Coaching Staff:
Head Coach Chris Defebo will be joined by a few other experienced coaches to help the team stay organized and provide the best practice and game experience.   Guest instructors may include surrounding area former and current college coaches.

Extra Benefit:
If your college team requires community service hours during your semester or off season, opportunities to assist with our youth softball programs are available.

Fees:
Team expenses will be streamlined to include basic tee shirt uniform and ancillary costs of insurance, umpires, tournaments, and basic supplies. It is estimated that this will be 8-10 week season.
